Lectures are Responsible for Motivating Students to Learn

  1. Thesis: Lectures are responsible for motivating students to learn.
  2. 1st argument: Lectures can influence others.
  3. 2nd argument: Motivation can come with innovative and creative assignments.
  4. 3rd argument: Lecturers play big role in students’ learning activities so motivation from them is needed.
  5. Counter argument: Self-willingness is the basis in learning.
  6. Conclusion: Motivating students to learn is lectures’ responsibility.
Generally speaking, motivation is what energizes, maintains, and controls behavior. As such, it is clear why it plays an important role in the university. Because to make things that you want to do or achieve happen, you need motivation. Therefore, motivation is needed by everyone so it is what drives you towards a goal, gets you up in the morning, and keeps you working through a task, determined to succeed when things get tough. This essay will demonstrate the reasons why lectures are responsible to motivate students to learn.

To begin with, lectures can influence others, especially the students. Because they have more experiences and higher education than the students. That is why, when lectures speak up, people can easily believe and get the point. Moreover, students need to have motivation in order to understand and get the idea from lectures.

In addition, motivation is not just all about giving students speech in boring and formal way. But giving more innovative and creative assignment can lead them to have more spirit, passion and improve their willingness of study. Because the regular assignment was too often and ordinary.

Finally, Lecturers play big role in students’ learning activities so motivation from them is needed. Because more motivations can lead to increased productivity and allow students to expand their abilities more. Just like a quote from Mustafa Kemal Ataturk “A good teacher is like a candle-it consumes itself to light the way for others”.

To sum up, although Self-willingness is the basis in learning process, lectures should also be aware of the important role of motivations. That is why I totally agree with the statement above.

My Swimming Story

I used to wake up in the morning at 4.30 am and at 5 I already jump in to the water, to practice. Not to forget after school I need to go to swimming pool as fast as I can until 8 pm. Yes, I used to be a swimming athlete since when I was 9 until 14 years old. I started to swim when I was 4 years old with my sister and we compete together in swimming pool. My childhood was all about swimming. I remember where ever I go for holiday; the only one that matter for me is the hotel or resort need to have a swimming pool and having a new swimming suit makes me happier than a pair of shoes. I took to swimming like I took to eating: with a sort of relaxed devotion, as if it was my birthright to be in a swimsuit at all times.

I was, in fact, so relaxed about competitive swimming that I never had the intense discipline to become a really fast swimmer as a kid. But being on the team did mean that I got to be in the water and hang out near the pool every single day, which was exactly where I wanted to be. Being an athlete was the best decision I have ever made. I was lucky to have parents who supported me financially, physically and of course mentally. The first team that I joined named Sura Club and its vision is “di Air Kita Jaya” the coach who happens to be my mother’s friend. He is the one who introduce me with water no doubt that I loved it! After that I joined KONI (Komite Olahraga Nasional Indonesia) PRSI (Persatuan Renang Seluruh Indonesia) east java region and I got professional coaches from government.

My highest achievement is when I became top 10 ranks in east java region. That is why my junior high school has received me without taking a test at all. When I was 14, I decided to quit from being an athlete because I need to focus to my study. No doubt that I spent a lot of time in swimming. And I saw myself not to be an athlete in the future for a professional carrier. But still, I have no regret at all. I was lucky to have an opportunity to be an athlete. I was taught about what sportivity is, and having a mentally strong every time I won or lose.

Problems in Surabaya

1.
        Introduction

Surabaya as know as kota pahlawan “city if heroes”  is the capital city in east java near Sidoarjo and Gresik.  Surabaya is the second largest city and the third largest metropolitan area in Indonesia, after greater Jakarta and Bandung. Many people know this city because of the history of battle in Surabaya. The Battle of Surabaya, one of the well-known battles of the Indonesian revolution, started after the Arek-Arek Suroboyo (Teenagers of Surabaya) assassinated the British Brigadier Mallaby on October 30, 1945 near Jembatan Merah (the "Red Bridge").The ensuing battle, which cost thousands of lives, took place on November 10, which Indonesians subsequently celebrate as Hari Pahlawan (Heroes' Day). The incident of the red-white flag (the Dutch flag at the top of Yamato Hotel's tower that was torn into the Indonesian red-white flag) by Bung Tomo is also recorded as a heroic feat during the struggle of this city. If you go to Surabaya, you can find many historic places and buildings with unique architectures.

2.
     Problems
·         Traffic jam
Major traffic jams occur on a daily basis especially during the busy hours of 7:00 - 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 - 6:00 p.m in some main streets.
·         Flood
Surabaya is characterized by water. Unfortunately, its location in a river delta, coupled with an aging and inadequate city infrastructure, makes the city prone to flooding.

3.      Solution and advice

·         Use of public transportation could help reducing traffic congestion of the city. Right now bemo (angkot) and buses are the most helpful public transportation. In order to fulfill the citizens needs, government should provide more qualified public transportation.
·         Citizen has to cooperate to not littering and make river cleaner. Though, government should  clean the river regularly and sue anyone who still littering.

4.      Conclusion

By a great cooperation between the citizens, government Surabaya can be better in many aspects. Now, Surabaya is on the process of changes lead by Bu Risma as the major. For the example, process of going GREEN; the government is building more gardens all over the city and doing their best to maintain the green environment. Although Surabaya has hot weather, but the gardens could possibly help it. So it's not impossible to have Surabaya with smooth traffic and no floods.

Henry Ford is My Role Model

If there’s any reason why Henry Ford is my forever role model; it’s because he taught me how to fail without failing, he taught me that failure is just a resting place and he proved it by going from two major business failures to becoming one of the richest man in the world. So whenever I am on the verge of failure; I remember the lessons of Henry Ford and use it as an inspiration to stay afloat.

Henry Ford was born on July 30, 1863, on his family's farm in Wayne County, near Dearborn, Michigan. When Ford was 13 years old, his father gifted him a pocket watch, which he took apart and reassembled. Friends and neighbors were impressed, and requested that he fix their timepieces too.
Unsatisfied with farm work, Ford left home the following year, at the age of 16, to take an internship as a machinist in Detroit. In the years that followed, he would learn to skillfully operate and service steam engines, and would also study bookkeeping. All the while, Ford developed his plans for a horseless carriage, and in 1896, he constructed his first model, the Ford Quadricycle. in 1903, Henry Ford established the Ford Motor Company. Ford introduced the Model T in October of 1908, and for several years, the company posted 100 percent gains.
Before that The car Ford had designed as a prototype needed to be reworked. In 1901, a year and a half after it had started operation, the board of directors dissolved the company. They had lost faith in Henry Ford. In analyzing this failure He would try a second time, starting out with a lightweight and smaller vehicle.
As a result, Ford sold millions of cars and became a world-famous company with dominance the market.

Cyntia's Future Career

ca·reer

 /kəˈrir/
noun
an occupation undertaken for a significant period of a person's life and with opportunities for progress.

“What my suitable career in the future?”
“What is my dream job?”
“Is it perfectly matched with my major?”

I kept asking myself with those questions over and over again. Being adult is sucks. Trust me. At least that’s my conclusion from my own thought. But still, it worth to think about. Have you ever planed your future career? If you haven’t, then you have to start it. Believe me, it needs lots of time. In this article I will predict a perfect career for my beloved classmate, Cynthia based on her hobbies, personalities, and talent.

Her name is Cynthia tjandra, 18 years old. I met this skinny lovely girl about 2 months ago from the class. Since then, we became close each other and always buying lunch together after class. She is a fun, talk active and a very good friend! Her passion is about art. She likes crafting, calligraphy and singing. She also took drawing class for 6 year. Actually she wants to study in medical school in the first place, but she ended in business administration in President University because she got full scholarship. So smart, right?

From many things that I know from Cynthia, I think she will be a really great entrepreneur in art industry. She already has a taste, talent, and basic skill about art and as a BA student, she will learn how to run a business. I really proud of her!!

Why do i love fashion?

Since i was a kid, i was already engaged in doing and having my own style of wearing clothes. My mom used to let me chose whatever i want in shopping, especially for fashion items. and it makes me happy! I have always considered my self a fashion lover and i would not go anywhere without having my self presentable to others. I like fashion since it is my own way to expressing my self in whatever situation or mood that i have. I've just had so much passion and respect for it from a young age. When i was 16, i started to take this seriously, so i took fashion designing class and i absolutely enjoy it!  now I subscribe and read all of the fashion magazines to see the latest creations from many brands. That's why I will pursue a business career in fashion industry.
